The Japanese beetle, native to Japan, attacks the foliage and fruit of more than 250 host plants including elm, maple, grape vine, peach, apple, apricot, cherry, plum, rose, zinnia, corn, asparagus, soybean, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. The larva (which looks a lot like the June bug larva) eats the roots of plants and prefers to feed on turf… but will feed on the roots of other kinds of plants as well.

The CFIA detected Japanese beetles in PEI in 2008 through a plant pest survey. PEI was regulated for Japanese beetle in an attempt to contain the spread of the beetle by restricting the movement of all plants including plants with soil out of the province.
